Department of social work organised Palliative Care Awarness Program as a part of Faculty development Programme on 10.089.2022.

On 10.09.2022 Department of social work as a part of Faculty development Programme organised Palliative Care Awarness Program in association with Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM). Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) initiated the Palliative Care Program in 2009, as a continuum of care for people living with HIV. It also initiated the State’s first comprehensive Palliative Care Program on a Public Private Partnership model at Mysore Medical College and Research Institute. The Resource person Ms. Nandhini gave brief information about Palliative Care initiative by SVYM, Mysuru. Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), in association with Mysore Medical College & Research Institute (MMC&RI), Mysuru, recently dedicated its Palliative Care Centre to the citizens. SVYM’s Palliative Care Programme has provided free home-based care for more than 700 people from marginalised community since its inception in 2009. This service has now been extended to offer institutional Palliative Care in a 16-bed Centre. she stressed on the fact that Palliative care is the active total care applicable from the time of diagnosis, aimed at improving the quality of life of patients and their families facing serious life-limiting illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering from pain and other physical symptoms as well as psychological, social and spiritual distress through socially acceptable and affordable interventions.
