The mind is considered “as an emergent property of the brain”, Neuropsychiatry is focused on mental disorders in patients with damage to the nervous system. This includes neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and cerebral palsy. It also includes mental disorders that develop following brain injuries to understand the details of the disorders the interactive session was organized.

Chronic stress accounts for billions of dollars of economic loss annually in the United States alone and is recognized as a major source of disability and mortality worldwide. Robust evidence suggests that chronic stress plays a significant role in the onset of severe and impairing psychiatric conditions, including major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder. Application of molecular imaging techniques such as positron emission tomography and single photon emission computed tomography in recent years has begun to provide insight into the molecular mechanisms by which chronic stress confers risk for these disorders.

The search for the pathophysiological substrates of mental disorders remains an important challenge for psychiatric research. While major psychiatric conditions have a biological signature that can be identified with a range of neuroimaging approaches, biomarkers that allow reliable differentiation between different conditions as well as detection at early-illness stages have yielded only modest success. Given the importance of early intervention in a range of disorders as well as the move towards personalized medicine, understanding the underlying neurobiology is of crucial importance towards the development of more effective treatments and care The students were impressed and insisted on many more sessions of this kind.

The speaker of the first interactive session is Dr. Katyayani Singh, M.Phil, PhD (Neurosciences)Research Fellow in Physiology. Department of Physiology, Institute of Bio- and Translational Medicine, University of Tartu. Tartu 50412, ESTONIA, pursued doctoral degree in Neurosciences, from the Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine, University of Tartu, Estonia. with the thesis title: Neuropsychiatric endophenotypes-focusing on IgLON adhesion molecules in the mouse brain. Under the supervision of Mari-Anne Philips; EeroVasar; Kersti Lilleväl, and has 13 publications in peer-reviewed high-impact national and international journals.
