SMART INVESTOR AWARENESS PROGRAMME UNDER “MARKET KA EKLAVYA” INITIATIVE
The Department of Studies in Commerce, PBMMEC, Metagalli, Mysuru organised anOnline Webinar on ‘SMART Investor Awareness Program’ for the youth under SEBI’s Investor Awareness Flagship programme “Market KaEklavya” initiative in association with PurnathaInvestment Advisors, Pune, Maharashtra for students of M.Com on Monday, 10th November 2025 from 11.00am to 12.30pm at the DOS in Commerce, PBMMEC, Metagalli, Mysuru.The resource person for the event was Dr.MahanteshKuri, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Business Administration, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi.
Purpose and scope of the event:
The primary objective of this Investor Awareness Programme was to educate students and young investors about the fundamentals of financial markets, promote financial literacy, and encourage prudent investment habits. The programme aimed to empower participants with the knowledge required to make informed financial decisions, understand investment opportunities, and safeguard their interests as investors. The session also intended to create awareness about the role of SEBI in investor protection and the importance of responsible participation in the securities market.
Details of the event:
The Investor Awareness Programme for the students of M.Comwas organized by The Department of Studies in Commerce, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College (Autonomous) PG Wing, Metagalli, Mysuruin association with PoornathaInvestment Advisors, Pune, Maharashtra.
The Webinar began with Dr. N. Roopesh Kumar, Assistant Professor and HoD-M.Com welcoming the Director, PBMMEC and all the participants and introducing the resource person to the participants. He gave a brief introduction about the resource person. The resource person Dr.MahanteshKuri took the students through the fundamentals of investing; viz., types of financial instruments available in the market. The advantages of investing in Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and National Fund Options (NFOs) rather than investing the money as Fixed Deposits in Banks. He explained about various mutual fund houses available for investment and informed the students that with mere Rs.500/- per month, one can invest in mutual funds which are relatively safe and also give more returns as compared to an FD in a Bank.
He also explained about the benefits of investing at the early age rather than investing after 30s with an example. He added that today’s investors are protected by SEBI’s CDSL and NSDL which are constantly monitoring the investors. SEBI has also implemented several educative platforms for creating awareness about various investment avenues.
The resource person gave live demonstrations on NSDL’s and CDSL’s digital platforms and discussed real-life examples to explain market operations and shared practical tips on portfolio diversification and risk management. He also added that there are mechanisms such as SMART ODR (Online Dispute Redressal) portal, SCORE 2.0, Dharohar, etc., through which investors can obtain solutions to their grievances.
During doubt clarification round, many students actively participated in the Q&A session, seeking clarifications about the process of stock trading, mutual fund investment, and complaint resolution mechanisms.Students asked the questions such as why only a few companiesissue bonus shares even though many other companies also earn high profits, whether investing in Company is better than Bank FDs?, whether diversification and portfolio are one and the same?, explanation about Financial Intelligence Unit of India, Whether IPO is better or NFO? etc. The resource person clarified all the doubts of the students. About the Resource Person:
Dr.MahanteshKuri is presently working as an Assistant Professor of Finance at the RaniChannamma University, Belagavi. He has more than 20 years of experience in both academics and industry. He has previously served with Deutsche Bank, HCL Technologies Ltd., and ICICI Bank Ltd. He is also ancertified and empanelled resource person and trainer with SEBI, NISM, and PFRDA since 2011.
