The students of final year M.Com visited KMF (MYMUL) Mega Diary, Bannur Road, Alanahalli,Mysuru Campus on Thursday, 19th June 2025 between 10.30am to 1.00pm. This event is a part of industrial exposure visit organized by the Department of Studies in Commerce, PBMMEC, Metagalli, Mysuru.

Purpose and scope of the event:

The purpose of the industry visit is to provide students with practical exposure through real-time industrial operations. It aims to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application. Students will observe, production processes and management practices at the Mega Diary. The visit enhances their understanding of industrial operations and also helps in developing professional skills and career insights.

Details of the Event

As part of the academic curriculum enrichment activities, the students of, IV Semester M.Com from the Department of Studies in Commerce, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College (Autonomous) PG Wing, Metagalli, Mysore, visited the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF – MYMUL) Mega Diary located on Bannur Road, Alanahalli, Mysuru on 19th June 2025. The visit was organized with the objective of imparting practical exposure to students on industrial operations, especially within the dairy and cooperative sectors.

The visit commenced at 10:30 AM with a warm welcome by Ms. Spoorthy, an MYMUL official, followed by a safety briefing and an overview of the organization. She told that, MYMUL is supporting rural dairy farmers, ensuring consumer satisfaction, and contributing to the development of local economy under the legacy “Nandini” brand.

Students visited various processing units likewise, milkcollection, quality testing laboratories, processing and pasteurization units, packaging section, cold storage facilities and dispatch zone. The operating process of each section was explained in detail by a technical staff of that section. They highlighted the equipment used, hygiene protocols maintained, and the challenges faced in maintaining consistency and quality.

A special interactive session was conducted where students posed questions related to supply chain logistics, cooperative management, quality assurance, and marketing strategies. Ms. Spoorthy and the other officials shared how the milk is procured from the farmers at distant villages through cooperatives and transported in containers lodged on trucks which are sanitized after each transportation in order to maintain the hygiene and avoiding the spoilage of milk. They explained the process of cleaning of tankers immediately after the reposition of milk into the diary.

Then, there are staff that are responsible for testing the quality of raw milk before it is sent for further processing. The quality control (QC) officers test samples from every tankers and do the basic testing like checking for spoilage signals, presence of impurities and checking of thickness of the milk.

Once, the milk getsquality approval from QC officers, it will be loaded into overhead pipes and transported to the area where pasteurization takes place. As the pasteurising process is done with utmost care and hygiene, outsiders except the staff are not allowed into the pasteurization area. However, the pasteurization process can be seen through transparent glasses meant for visitors.

Once, the pasteurization completes, the milk is transported through overhead pipes to packing areas where the milk will be categorised like Toned Milk (Blue Pack), Full Cream Milk (Orange Pack), Double Toned Milk (Green Family Pack), and GoodLife Milk (Tetra Pack). The students were taken to another processing area where other products are made out of milk like the Curd, Lassi, Buttermilk, Ghee, Sweets and Condiments.

The students and faculty coordinators were given complimentary Nandini butter milk and NandiniPeda by the staff of MYMUL. Visit enhanced students’ knowledge base with a comprehensive understanding of how theoretical concepts in commerce and management are effectively implemented in real-time industry scenarios. The event was a successful academic-industry interface, promoting practical learning and industry awareness among postgraduate students.
