SBRR Mahajana PG Wing, Department of Business Administration successfully conducted a Faculty reorientation programme on 17th March 2023. Prof Harish Machia, HOD, MBA Department welcomed the resource persons and participants, and set the tone for the themes to be discussed during the day. Dr V.Padmaja, Associate Professor, MS Ramaiah institute of Management, Bangalore reoriented the faculty members on Transparency in Learning and Transforming Higher Education as she stressed on the importance of aligning objectives and outcomes and to be in sync with the New Education Policy.

Dr V. Padmaja had a interactive session with the participants on Transparency in Learning, where all the faculty participated and expressed their opinion about transparency. The importance of DEIB that is diversity, equity, equality and inclusion and belongingness and its importance was highlighted. Madam highlighted about good governance and good leadership. The relevance of technology for academic success was highlighted. Resource person suggested devising course curriculum in par with placement opportunity for students. The requirement for developing student centric approach was emphasised. The importance of mentoring, proper proportion of students mentor ratio to be maintained, students to be groomed in personality development, arranging guest lecture, and short term projects, industry academic interaction was emphasised. A good mentor would be good philosopher, friend to students and once in 15 days students to be mentored which will help address various issues related to their attendance, dress code, academic performance.

In session two the topic was Transforming Higher Education. Important take away in this session were:

  • Faculty internship programme to be encouraged which will help faculty to update themselves with the industry standards.
  • Faculty to work in collaboration with students in research work, poster presentations, live projects too.
  • Value added and certificate courses for faculty and students to be encouraged by the institution.Some of the value based coursed such as movie making, cyber security, fashion technology, yoga,meditation; sports can be introduced by institution.
  • Research cell in the institution for building a culture of research,. Faculty should set research goal for their publication, citation.
  • HODs to set research target for faculty too. Research work in collaboration with their own faculty or multidisciplinary faculty was encouraged. Institution to work on taking UGC funded projects and grants.
  • Institution should see that Faculty are given monetary incentive for their research work undertaken.
  • E resource in library to be supportive in research work.
  • There was suggestions on usage of Mentimeter app for interaction and communication with students to be encouraged which engages students with quizzes, polls, results etc.,
  • For non-teaching staff too up gradation and orientation on new software, enrolment to value added courses were suggested.
  • Feedback mechanism to be strengthened and encouraged.
  • Suggestions related to blooms taxonomy usage, internal assessment parameters were emphasised.
  • Diversity in role allocationand representation of women was encouraged.
  • Need to reduce unconscious bias was suggested.Orientation on Diversity and inclusion was emphasised

Session 3 / post lunch session was by Dr. Kumar Kenche Gowda, Director, KGTTI, Bangalore, emphasised on the Role of skilling in youths as success mantra in India. Dr. Kumar highlighted on relevance of skills as very important. Technical and behavioral skills in achieving goal which help one need to skill up and scale up to grow.It was stressed that Skill is the only Mahamantra.

Important take away from session were:

  • Positive affirmation given to students will help them to scale up since ordinary students are seen doing extraordinary thingswhich need to be encouraged. More emphasize on skills of students to be given.
  • Fear to be removed from every student and make them independent. Skill set to be utilized in scientific way.
  • Relevance of Technology, trade and tradition was emphasized.
  • There was Orientation on how faculty can contribute their innovative ideas where funding can be from Government of India. Importance of cyber security was emphasized.
  • The importance of Karnataka multi skill center to upload new ideas was emphasized.
  • Emphasis was given on traditional skill such as handicrafts, cooking, carpentry, pottery reflect the cultural identity and values of communities and are important for preserving our cultural heritage and Modern skill which will help inPersonal and professional growth.Importance of artificial intelligence, industrial automation was emphasized.
  • He offered to bring in new modules based on the suggestions that our Professors could offer and agreed to work in partnership with the institution.
  • Students to be encouraged to take up skill development course in their institute.
    40 participants from various departments benefitted from the session. Convenor Prof. Dhanalakshmi summed it up with her closing remarks and proposed vote of thanks.
