Planning and Organising : The staff and students had done one visits to the G Marahalli Village to ask permission for Conducting one Week education Camp. During the visit, the staff and Students met the grama panchayath members village leaders and community representatives to explain the objectives of the One week education camp, request official permission to carry out the activities in the village and discuss co-operation and support from the villagers.

The village authorities responded positively and granted permission for conducting the camp. As the camp required a one week stay the staff enquired about the availability of accommodation facilities for the students. the village leaders providing space for temporary accommodation for students and staff. Ensuring basic elements such as sanitation, water and safety, allowing the use of community halls and school buildings for daily activities

Students were divided into sub group and each groups was assigned specific tasks, various committee was arranged respectively and camp schedule was prepared well in advance.

Objectives :

  1. Develops and understanding of the rural social system.
  2. Gain insight in to the value of living in a group in term of self- development, interpersonal relationship, sense of organisation, management, taking on responsibility.
  3. Prepare for (planning), organize, and implement the camp, which will include developing skills related to time management, effective communication, teamwork, handling relationships, handling conflicts, handling differences of opinion, making decisions, evaluating , appreciating, transferring, resource, tasks, learning problem solving skills, and cooperating.
  4. The trainee should be encouraged to address basic civic needs of society through concrete tasks.
  5. To identify and understand better the Community’s strengths and weakness, its resource assets and to integrate the various potentials of the community.
  6. On their return, students participate actively in the planning, implementation, and presentation of their experiences.

Introduction

The first year MSW students accompanied by the staff reached, G. Marahalli stayed in the G-marahalli village after the proceedings were over, our faculty request the Grampanchayath presidentMr.Rangaswamy and panchayat members, villagers to extended co-operation students for the camp and invited everyone to join the inauguration of the camp scheduled from 04-09-2025To 09-09-2025.At 6:00pm.After the inauguration students went to the village to contact villagers in the surrounding to know the roads to survey for the next few days.

Contact was established with members of Grama panchayath of the village and to know about the place and very well communication and rapport was built with community members along with children who were very friendly and made everyone comfortable

Inauguration

Inauguration: Camp was inaugurated by the Shivram KasnurTahasildar of Nanjangudtaluk and Rangaswamy president of Suttur Grama panchayat,& members, Sahakari Halu Okkuta sangha, and community members, and Dr. Bhavana v. HOD of social work department. PBMM PG centre, Mysore.After that Our HOD Bhavana ma’am given a briefing on the programmes to be held as part of the camp and they assured of their co-operation to the various activities.

Village Survey:The social work survey conducted at G-Marahalli village covered a total village population spread across 350 households. Due to time limitations and the one-week camp schedule, thestudent team selected a representative sample of 150 houses for the survey. These households were chosen systematically to ensure coverage of different areas of the village and to collect accurate information on socio-economic conditions, education, health status, sanitation, and agricultural practices. Through house-to-house interaction, students gathered detailed data and gained insights into the living conditions of the residents, their main occupations, and local agricultural crops such as tuberose, ginger, and paddy. The selected 150 households provided sufficient information to understand the overall situation of the village and helped in planning appropriate social work interventions during the camp.

History and Dynamics of Village

G-Marahalli is a traditional and culturally rich village located under Suttur Grama Panchayat in Mysuru district. The village is believed to have been established several generations ago by agrarian communities who migrated in search of fertile land and water sources. Historically, agriculture played a crucial role in shaping the village’s growth, as the region is known for its favourable soil, irrigation channels, and monsoon patterns.Over time, the village developed into a close-knit settlement with strong social bonding, traditional festivals, and rural customs that reflect the heritage of Mysuru’s countryside.

Economic Activities: Agriculture is the main economic backbone of G-Marahalli. The village practices both traditional and modern farming methods. Major crops cultivated include:Tuberose,Ginger, Paddy,Ragi and maize(in some areas). Many households engage in allied activities such as dairy farming, cattle rearing, and seasonal labour. A few people also work in nearby towns such as Mysuru and Nanjangud for non-agricultural jobs, contributing to the village economy through daily wages and small businesses.

Caste Dynamics: G-Marahalli, like many villages in Karnataka, has a mix of different caste groups who have lived together for generations. The major caste communities include:OBC, ScheduledCastes, Scheduled Tribes.

Social mapping:

Cultural Programme : from 04.09.25 to 09.09.25 cultural programme was conducted by students every evening from6:30 to 8:00 Dance, songs from social work trainee’s and from school children were performed. Skit was also been played on save environment, consequences on child marriage,banned female foeticide and alcohol addiction, social media addiction. where all the children enjoyed and learned the social problem which occur in society through skits.

Group Activities for Students (GLPS): On Sunday07.09.2025 the students had kept sports for all the children from 1st to 5th std where all children paritcipated actively with full of enthusiasm. Games like:frog race, placing glass,blind fold were conducted and winners were announced. teachers were also paritcipated and enjoyed with students.

Job Fair :

A job fair was organized by Bank of Baroda at G-marahalli village, where people from G-marahalli and the surrounding areas were included. Candidates with SSLC, PUC, Degree, and other qualifications were encouraged to participate. They interacted directly with representatives from Bank of Baroda and other organizations and received information about available job positions, required qualifications, and the selection process. Students from the Social Work department also actively took part in the event. They gained valuable insights into employment opportunities, banking services, and regional development programs. The job fair provided them with meaningful practical exposure, direct interaction with professionals, and an excellent platform to enhance their awareness about various career opportunities.

Orthopedic Health Camp at G-marahalli

An Orthopedic Health Camp was conducted at G-marahalli by Spandana Hospital, Mysuru, as a part of social work and community health outreach activity.The camp aimed to identify orthopedic problems, provide basic treatment, create awareness on bone and joint health, and refer patients for further management when necessary.

Interaction Between Suttur Gram Panchayat PDO and Social Work Trainees – G-marahalli Village

An interactive session was held between the PDO (Panchayat Development Officer) of Suttur Gram Panchayat and the Social Work trainees regarding the social, economic and developmental conditions of G-marahalli village.The PDO provided insights on ongoing government schemes, village-level development activities, community needs, and priority areas requiring social intervention.The session helped the trainees understand grassroots governance, village administration, and therole of Panchayats in community development.

Camp Fire

On 08/09/2025, it was the last night of the social work camp. All the social work trainees actively participated in the Fire Camp organized during the social work camp.The activity created a joyful and memorable experience, promoting teamwork, bonding, and a sense of togetherness among the trainees.The Fire Camp also helped enhance group interaction and provided a refreshing conclusion to the day’s activities.

Valedictory

The valedictory programme of the one-week social work camp at G-Marahalli was organised in a well-structured and meaningful manner by the students and staff of Mahajan College. The event was presided over by the main guest JJS Sanga Samstegal Samyojakaru Sri Tripurantaka, along with other distinguished guests: Rangaswamy President of sutturu Grama Panchayat and Smt. Prathima Voice President of Sutturu Gram Panchayat,Sri Ravi from Krushi Sahakari Sangha,Sri Mahesh, President of Halu Utpadaka Sangha, Smt. Chowdamma, Panchayat Member, Sri B. Nagaraju, Headmaster, GHS Suttur, and Asha worker Smt. Kalpana.

The programme began with a formal welcome, followed by insightful speeches from the guests, who appreciated the students’ dedication and highlighted the importance of community service, rural development, and youth participation in strengthening village welfare. The detailed survey report, covering 150 houses out of 350 in the village, was presented during the event, offering valuable insights into the social and economic conditions of G-Marahalli.

Cultural activities were performed by the students, including impactful street plays on female foeticide and child marriage, which created strong awareness among the villagers. As a mark of appreciation and encouragement, the Suttur Grama Panchayat distributed certificatesto all participating students for their active involvement and service throughout the camp. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a successful completion of the social work camp.

Conclusion:

The social work camp at G-marahalli was a meaningful and enriching experience for all the trainees. Throughout the camp, various activities such as health awareness programmes, orthopaedic camp, interaction with Gram Panchayat members, field visits, data collection, and community engagement helped the trainees understand the real-life needs of the rural population. The active participation from the villagers, and guidance from faculty made the camp successful.Overall, the camp strengthened the trainees’ professional skills, social responsibility, and commitment towards community development. The experience gained during the camp will be valuable for their future social work practice.
