Study Tour to Manipal Academy of Higher Education

Purpose and Scope of the event:

The study tours by students would enhance their knowledge about the professional laboratories and institutes. The visits to these esteemed laboratories would encourage them to pursue the research career and industrial career opportunities and provide an excellent chance to meet the pivotal scientists in the respective field of research.

Details of the talk/event/activity

The students of M.Sc. Biochemistry III semester (29 students) and two faculty visited MAHE, Manipal on 12thof March 2024. Dr. BS Satish Rao gave an orientation for 30 minutes about the achievements and career prospects at MAHE. Later, research assistants took the students for a tour of the school of life sciences laboratories along with detailed explanation about each instrument used for life sciences research. The students were accompanied by Dr. Girish Chandran and Ms. Rayana Lavitha D Silva. The study trip was organized for M.Sc. Biochemistry III semester students of Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Education Centre, SBRRMFGC PG wing. 33 students participated in the study trip. At MAHE students visited the research laboratories and the central instrumentation facilities where they got acquainted with the high end instruments used in the biological research.

Dr. Satish Rao B S

He is the Director at Manipal School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. His areas of interest include but not limited to Radiation biology & toxicology. His areas of expertise are Cell Culture, Genotoxicity, Drug Delivery, Anticancer drug Screening, Molecular Radiobiology, Radiation Biodosimetry, Radiosensitization&Radioprotection, Heavy metal toxicology, Natural products. The areas of research are Radiation Biology & Experimental Oncology, Toxicology, Nanotechnology & Targeted drug delivery. He has membership in the major professional associations viz., International Society for Mangiferin Research (Life member, Vice-general Secretary); Indian Society for Radiation Biologists (Life Member & Ex. Executive Member); Indian Society of Human Genetics (Life Member); Society for Free Radical Research, India (Life Member); Indian Association for Hyperthermic Oncology and Medicine (Member); Society for Biological Chemistry (Life Member); Society for Radiation Research, India (Full member). He is a professor and head at the department of Radiation Biology & Toxicology, School of Life Sciences, MAHE, Manipal.
