World Blood Donor Day

The department of Social Work had organized blood donation camp on 14.06.2024 in collaboration with KR Hospital Blood Centre to observe World Blood Donor Day. Jeevadhara Foundation, Mandya also joined hands with us and sponsored refreshments for the donors. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and to encourage students and staff to participate in this life-saving activity. The camp was set up in the PG centre MCA auditorium from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Objectives

• To promote the significance of blood donation.
• To create a sense of social responsibility among students.
• To provide a platform for students to engage in community service.

The blood donation process was well-organized and included the following steps:

1. Registration: Donors filled out a form with their personal details and health history.
2. Medical Check-up: Each donor underwent a brief medical check-up to ensure they were fit to donate blood.
3. Donation: The actual blood donation took around 10-15 minutes per donor.
4. Post-Donation Care: Donors were given refreshments and advised to rest for a while before leaving the camp.

Participation

The camp saw an overwhelming response from students, faculty, and staff. The key highlights of participation are as follows:

Registrations: Over 120 individuals registered to donate blood and get tested for anemia.
Donations: A total of 53 units of blood were collected.
Volunteers: 20 MSW student volunteers assisted in various roles such as registration, guiding donors, and providing refreshments.

Benefits and Impact

The blood donation camp had several positive outcomes:

Life-Saving Contribution: The blood collected will be used to save lives in hospitals and emergency situations.
Awareness and Education: The camp educated students about the importance of regular blood donation and its impact on society.
