The webinar – ‘Industry trends of Linux and Open Source in post-Covid Era’ on 9th September 2020 at 11:30am was organized by the Department of Studies in Computer Science, PG Wing of SBRR Mahajana First Grade College (Autonomous) in association with IPSR Solutions Limited, Kottayam, Kerala. The speaker Dr. Mendus Jacob, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., MIoD, the CEO of IPSR Solutions Ltd. And Valin Technologies, U.K., an Academician and an Entrepreneur with 30 + years of experience was introduced by Smt. Rachana C R, Associate Professor & HOD, Department of Studies in Computer Science.
The speaker focused on the following points:
- He focused on the facts of various industrial revolutions which took place in the past and he spotted that the next revolution would result in a barrier between man and machine.
- Further he gave a comparison between the performance of Humans and Computers and also, he stated the cause for unemployment.
- He exhibited the facts of high data generation & usage by individuals and also the impact of acceleration growth in digitalization
- Later explained the importance of data and how data will be a key player in the industry for next couple of decades.
- He noted the trends of employment and the jobs which are currently in demand and the skills and attitude which are very much necessary for a learner in the present days and learner should be capable enough to identify his strengths to become strong in fundamentals so that he can grab right opportunities at right time
- Importance of open source technologies, its demand in the market, chances of sustainability and its workaround were discussed.
- He gave the example of few success stories of students getting recruited in MNC’s after seeking training in Red Hat from IPSR academy.
The last 10 minutes was for Q&A session. The session was concluded with Vote of Thanks by Smt. Rachana C R, HOD, Department of Studies in Computer Science. Students and faculty of the department attended this webinar.
