The Training of Basic First Aid Knowledge and Skills to PG Students
First aid is a critical skill that can save lives in emergency situations. Recognizing its importance, a series of first aid training sessions were organized for postgraduate (PG) students at our institution. The training aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively to various medical emergencies.
The sessions were conducted by a Medical Team from DRM Multi specialty Hospital, Mysuru. Dr. Santhosh M.O , Chief Intensivist DRM hospital , Dr. Santhosh, Anaesthesia and intensivist and Ms. Pavithra, Senior nursing incharge trained the students
Objectives of the programme
The primary objectives of the first aid training sessions were:
- To impart basic first aid knowledge and skills to PG students.
- To enhance students’ confidence in handling medical emergencies.
- To educate students on the importance of quick and effective responses to accidents and health crises.
- To promote a culture of safety and preparedness within the student community.
Training Sessions Overview
Duration: The training programme spanned for 3 sessions on 5th, 6th and 8th of June.
Venue: The sessions were held in the MTA Auditorium.
Participants: 300 postgraduate students from various departments participated in the training.
Session Content
The training sessions were comprehensive, covering a wide range of first aid topics
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
- Choking relief for adults, children, and infants
- Treating burns and scalds
- Responding to poisoning and allergic reactions
- Recognizing and treating heart attacks and strokes
- Dog and snake bites
- Panic attacks in public
The first aid training sessions for PG students were a resounding success, fulfilling their objectives and providing invaluable skills to the participants. The positive feedback and observed outcomes highlight the importance of such initiatives. Moving forward, it is recommended to conduct regular refresher courses and extend training opportunities to a broader student population to foster a culture of preparedness and safety within the institution.
