Study Tour

The department regularly conducts study tours to various destinations in India and abroad. Students gain hands on experience in conducting tours. They also study about the conditions in the destination and submit a detailed study tour report.

Workshops

A number of workshops related to the field of tourism and hotel management are conducted every year.

Soft Skill Training

Soft skill training program is conducted every year to the final year students, in order to equip them to face the challenges of the industry.

A number of guest lectures are conducted every year on various topics concerning the tourism and hospitality industry.

(A) ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

1. ATTENDED 4TH NATIONAL HOUSEKEEPERS CONVENTION & ANNIVERSARY OF PHA- 18/5/21019, 8:45 AM to 6 PM, Venue: The Zuri Whitefield, Bengaluru, Theme: Sustainable Housekeeping Operations.

PHA: Given the typical stage of their life, most students constantly want to explore new spaces and seek thrilling experiences. The PHA fraternity very humbly offers a more collaborative engagement for students from various institutions while enriching the hospitality landscape in India. PHA 4th National Convention was inaugurated by Mr. Hariharan. After the Inaugural session they had Panel discussion on need of sustainable practices in hotels – problems and prospects. They also discussed why regulatory factors are important in making people to follow better environmental friendly practices in hotels. It has given the inputs on recent sustainable and eco-friendly practices followed in housekeeping operations across India. All the Panel discussions enlightened us with new innovations. 2. CAMPUS INTERVIEW – INFOSYS 16/4/2019

3. STUDY TOUR REPORT- FINAL YEAR BTH (April 8th to 12th 2019)

BTH Final year (VI Semester) students planned for 4 nights 5 days trip, journey from Mysuru –Murdeshwara- Gokarna -Yana to Kodachadri, with guidance and company of Ravi Prasad.S(Assistant Professor) and Sangam from MVG travels. Objective - providing situations for the student to learn and get acquainted with the process of organizing/conducting a study tour/ field work and understanding the business opportunities.

4. INFOSYS VISIT FOR ORIENTATION TO BTH STUDENTS (3^RD YEAR) – 05/04/2019

BTH Final year (VI Semester) – 23students attended the orientation in Infosys, Mysore to know about the facilities in the Infosys related to hospitality industry on 5/4/2019 with Mr.GeorgeJaison, HoD.

5. PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, GARDEN CITY UNIVERSITY, BANGALORE – 14/03/2019

We are glad to connect our BTH & BBA (Hospitality) students towards building people, passion & profession in the Hospitality Industry by participating in the Transition 2019, 7^thInternational Conference, entitled “Innovations in Accommodation Industry across the Globe-Implications for the Stakeholders & Sustainability”, was organized by the Department of Hospitality management & Catering Technology, Garden City University, Bangalore in collaboration with PHA (Professional Housekeepers Association) YUVA, Bangalore on 14^th March 2019. A team of seventeen students with three faculty members from BTH & BBA (Hospitality) headed by Cdr. Satish H.N. Head (Tourism & Hospitality), Mr.GeorgeJaison, Mrs.Gunarekha B.S, Mr.Samuel presented papers & participated in the various events of the conference

6. MOU WITH SWAGATH GOURMET, NEW JERSEY, USA - - 01/03/2019

Mahajana Education Society (MES), Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru & Swagath Gourmet, (SG) New Jersey, U.S.A., signed an agreement on March 1^st 2019 to promote International collaboration in Hotel & Hospitality the field of Academic Research, Internship and Training. Prof. H N Satish, Head (Tourism & Hospitality) spoke about the potential collaboration and co-operation for development and promotion opportunities between SG and MES. Senior Management Team of both organisations held Discussions on modalities of deputing Hotel & Hospitality Students for Internship & Training to New Jersey, USA.

7. ORGANIZED A SPECIAL TALK ON ”TOURISM & HOSPITALITY IN SAUDI ARABIA” ON 25/10/2018

Organized a special talk on” Tourism & Hospitality In Saudi Arabia” was delivered by resource person Ms.Alalawi Inam Saeed .M, student of MBA, PBMMEC, Mysuru on 25/10/2018. She highlighted the potentials and significance of tourism & hospitality in Saudi Arabia

8. ORGANIZED TWO DAYS NATIONAL CONFERENCE – 5^TH& 6^TH OCTOBER 2018

Organized Two Days National Conference on "Tourism and the Digital Transformation" to mark World Tourism Day 2018 was jointly organized by Tourism Department, Government of Karnataka and the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management on 5^th& 6^th OCTOBER 2018. On 5^th October 2018 for inauguration the Guest of honour were Sri G.T.Devagowda, Honourable Higher Education Minister and Sri S.R.Mahesh, Honourable Minister for Tourism & Sericulture, Sri Anilkumar T.K, IAS, Secretary of GoK, Dr.Toney K.Thomas, Deputy dean, Taylor’s University, Malaysia, Mr.Kiran Ranga, Mr.Prashanth, MTAA president, Mr.Shyam Bhat. The occasion was graced by Sri R. Vasudevamurthy, President, Mahajana Education Society (MES), Mysuru, Sri T.Muralidhar Bhagavat, Vice President, MES, Dr.Vijayalakshmi T.Muralidhar, Honourable Secretary, MES, Prof.C.K.Renukarya, Director, Mahajana PG Centre, Cdr Satish H.N ( R ), Head (Tourism &Hospitality) and all faculty members of Department of Tourism & hospitality were present.The two days national conference had six technical sessions, one panel discussion. The cultural event: Theme- Samskruthi, the chief Guest was Mr.Vishwanath.H, State JDS President, Karnataka, Prof.C.K.Renukarya, Director, Mahajana PG Centre, Mysuru, Mr.NikhilShaji, M.D, Edutech. 9. SEMINAR ON “SPIRITUAL TOURISM “– 29/9/2018

In association with Brahma Kumaris foundation, Mysuru a seminar on “Spiritual Tourism” was organized in our department to celebrate the World Tourism Day 2018 on 29/9/2018. Dignitaries from members of Mysore Travel agencies and Mysore Hoteliers association, Government sector (KSTDC) and NGO were the chief guest of the day.

10. ATTENDED WORKSHOP ON “THE ROLE OF INDIAN HOSPITALITY IN MAKING SWACHH BHARAT A REALITY” IN KLE COLLEGE, BANGALORE – 22/9/2018

11. ORGANIZED “WORKSHOP ON FRUITS & VEGETABLES CARVING” – 20/9/2018

Fruits and Vegetables carving workshop was organized for the BBA students. Executive chef Sasi was the resource person who demonstrated the art of carving the fruits and vegetables for decorative purpose in the Hospitality sector.

12. ATTENDED “PROFESSIONAL HOUSEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION (PHA) – ANNIVERSARY”- 15/09/2018

PHA organized its first anniversary in Oterra Hotel, Bangalore. 19 BBA Students and 1 faculty who are members of PHA participated and understood the responsibilities of the PHA Yuva towards the society and industry

13. ORGANIZED A ONE DAY WORKSHOP on “HOUSEKEEPING & ZERO WASTE MANAGEMENT FOR HOSPITALITY SECTOR” – 08/09/2018

We organized a one day workshop on “Housekeeping & Zero Waste Management for Hospitality Sector” for BBA students on 8th September 2018. The objective of the programme was to create awareness on cleanliness, hygiene and safety measures related to housekeeping and zero waste management in the hotel sectors, tourism industry and for the community to keep our environment sustainable in a responsible manner. This workshop was an initiative taken by Prof.H.N.Satish, Head (Tourism & Hospitality). He briefed about the objectives of the event. Opening Address about PHA was delivered by the chief guest Mrs.Asha Premkumar, Consultant Housekeeping & Vice President, Professional Housekeeper Association (PHA) followed by “PHA Presentation” by Mrs.Bharti Kalappa, Founder Secretary, PHA. Mr.Thomas Mathew HoD, Army Institute of Hotel Management, Bengaluru spoke about the role of “PHA- Yuva” for the students to bridge the gap between the industry and the institution followed by “PHA Yuva” Jingle by Ms.Indu, Student of AIMS Institute for Higher education. 14. ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR FRESHERS – 07/08/2018

We organized orientation Programme -“Industry Institute Interaction” for freshers, the students of first year BBA (Tourism & Hospitality Mgmt.) on 7^th August 2018 between 11.30 a.m and 1.30 p.m at Tourism Auditorium. The objective of the programme was to create awareness about the industry expectations and thevalues imparted by the institute to the students.Mr.GeorgeJaison, HoD, Associate Professor, BBA (Tourism & Hospitality Mgmt.) introduced and welcomed the Chief GuestsMr. Peter Pullialtu, General Manager, Hotel Fortune JP Palace, Mysuru &Mr.SachinMalhotra, General Manager, Hotel Grand Mercure, Mysuru.Mr. Peter Pullialtu, spoke about the mutual interaction between industry and institute and highlighted to work together as a team to reach the needs of the industry.Mr.SachinMalhotra,empowered the thoughts of the students related to self development, learning ability and values of attitude to acquire the opportunities in the industry.The presidential remark was delivered by Dr.C.K.Renukarya, Director, Mahajana PG Campus.Smt. 15. ORGANIZED A SPECIAL TALK ON “FINE TUNE: A SESSION ON STUDENT LIFE BALANCE” ON 25/07/2018

Organized a special talk on “Fine tune: A session on Student Life Balance” for BBA students on  25/07/2018 between 10.30 a.m – 12.00 noon at Tourism Auditorium by “The Art of Living”, Vyakti Vikas Kendra-Mysore Information Centre, Br.Divyapaada, a disciple of Sri Sri Ravishankar Guruji.

1. ODC to TAJ Hotel at Madikeri - on 21^st 22^nd, 23^rd and 24^th, February 2019

With the initiative taken by Mr.Sathya, HR TAJ Hotel, Madikeri & Mr.Satish H N (Prof and Head), Taj had taken the Food and Beverage Contract from Tata Group companies Marriage Event. For this event, 40 Boys (BBA-Hospitality) with two faculties of the Department named Mr. Ravi Prasad.S and Mr.Vinay Kumar K S were assigned. 2. “COLLABORATION WITH TAJ - ODC AT INFOSYS CAMPUS” - 14^TH TO 16^THFEBRAUARY, 2019

Infosys Ltd. held a three days’ national level tech conference “INFYTQ SUMMIT 2019” at its Campus, Mysuru and the Hotel Taj,Yashwanthpura, was given the responsibility of ODC from 14/02/2019 to16/02/2019. Our BBA (Tourism & Hotel Mgmt) 39 students and faculty led by Mr. George Jaison and Mr.Roopeshkumar reported on 14/2/2019. Our students carried out their duties allotted to them in their respective shifts and the Taj staff appreciated their performance. Mr.SuhaibTareen showed interest totake all the students from the BBA – Hospitality department as trainees from next year in the various properties of Taj in Bengaluru

3. ODC TO HOTEL TAJ, YESHWANTH AT BANGALORE- 10.01.2019

Hotel Taj has a requirement of 60 ODC Boys for Food and Beverage department from Herbalife Nutrition companies Spectacular 2019 Event on 10^th January 2019.As per their requirement, 60 Boys from BBA (Tourism and Hospitality Management) students and faculty members Mr. George Jaison and Mr.Vinay Kumar K S were assigned ODC responsibilities to complete it. Director of HR TAJ group of Hotels have Appreciated our students effort, commitment and dedication. They have assured to select about 20 students as permanent staff. They are very much interested to future ODCs and MOU with us.

4. “FELICITATION TO VICE CHANCELLOR, UNIVERSITY OF MYSORE” – 30/11/2018

SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Education Centre, KRS Road, Metagalli, Mysuru- 570016 organized a Felicitation Program in honor of Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Honorable Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore on 30^th November 2018 at the Tourism Department Auditorium.  Dr. C. K. Renukarya, Director PBMMEC, PG wing welcomed honorable Vice Chancellor & Cdr. Satish H.N (R), introduced the chief guest Prof. G.Hemantha Kumar then Sri Vasudeva Murthy R, President, Mahajana Education Society felicitated Prof. G Hemantha Kumar.Prof. G Hemantha Kumar in his Chief Guest address highlighted the importance of spirituality and divine favor. He emphasized on the importance of sincerity, hard work and asked the teachers to render selfless service for the cause of education. He called the teachers to go one mile extra mile from teaching responsibilities to build program as this would build an institution. He insisted on education to be employment focused. 5. CELEBRATED “WORLD TOURISM DAY 2018” – 27/9/2018

All students and faculty members participated in the World Tourism Day 2018 celebration which was organized in the Mysore Palace by the Mysore Travel Association. Sri G.T.Devagowda higher education minister, Sri Ramdas and Mysore king Sri Yaduveer were the chief guests of the event.  Our students decorated the floor with rangoli and greeted the tourists with roses and distributed sweets.

6. ORGANIZED “TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION” - 5/9/2018

Students of BBA celebrated teachers’ day by cutting cakes and distributed sweets.The teachers enjoyed themselves really well and the organizing committee had got a big round of appreciation for making the function a grand success and perfectly utilized the opportunity to show the love and affection to all the teaching and non-teaching staff from the department.

7. “COLLABORATION WITH TAJ - ODC AT INFOSYS CAMPUS” - 27^TH TO 29^TH AUGUST, 2018

It is indeed a matter of great satisfaction in presenting before you the report of our collaboration with the prestigious hotel, Taj Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru to host anevent for catering to 1000 covers in a restaurant style servicein the Infosys campus, Convergence 2018, Mysore from 27^th to 29^th of August. 43 Students with 4 faculty members Mr.George Jaison, Mrs.Gunarekha B.S, Mr.Raviprasad, Mr.Kaliamoorthy from BBA department reported to Infosys on 26^th August 2018 at 5.00 p.m. Taj Group made learning an experience in table set up, handling Guests and their needs, display outlets, live station arrangements, buffet styles – filing, serving, clearance and cleaning techniques. We are glad to inform that Mr.Suhaib, HR Executive, Taj Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru appreciated our BBA students as the best team and faculty coordinators for their complete dedication and enthusiasm. They want to associate with us for all their official Banquets in Bengaluru. Further they informed that some of the students could be placed in Taj Hotels.

8. ORGANIZED “INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA” – 21/06/2018

The International day of yoga was celebrated on 21.06.2018.  Dr.Premnath Raman & Ms.Prathibha of Art of Living Foundation, Mysuru were the Resource persons. Various Aasanas and Meditation were performed by Mahajana PG Centre Staff members and students. The session was followed by Yogic postures demonstration by the volunteers of Vivekananda Yoga Education & Research Institution, Mysuru. The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr.C.K.Renukarya, Director & Professor H.N.Satish, HOD of Tourism Department. The Yoga day was coordinated by Smt.B.S.Gunarekha, Asst.Professor, MTTM.
