On the occasion of CSIR Foundation Day (Sept. 26), CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru, organised “Open Days” on Sept. 26 and 27 to mark CSIR’s 81 st Foundation Day. Under the guidance of Dr.C.K.Renukarya, Director, Mahajana PG Campus and Dr.Satish G.Chetty, Head, Dept. of Tourism & Hospitality Management and with the initiative taken by Mrs. Gunarekha B.S, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Tourism & Hospitality Management visited CFTRI with 30 students from B.B.A. (Aviation & International Tourism), B.B.A. (Hotel & Hospitality), B.Sc. Science(Geology, Forensic Science and Food processing and quality management) accompanied with Mr.Victor Hemanth Kumar, Asst. Prof., and Mr.Siddaraju, Asst. Prof.
The main objective was to have a glimpse of the research and technology development being undertaken in the areas of food science and technology and food processing at the institute. further to observe the special displays showing the research and development work done at CFTRI as well as some products and machineries developed by the Institute.
The theme of this year’s Open Day is “Food Technology-Industry Connect.” The theme pavilion showcased information about CFTRI Innovative Technologies with relevance to Entrepreneurship. It’s an opportunity to explore science as a career option for students. We went around the institute watching exhibits, demonstrations and technologies.
A mobile food processing and demonstration unit (MFPDU) was on display. One of the objectives of the MFPDU is demonstration of CFTRI technologies. Sauce, jam, jelly, juice and bakery products can be prepared at the mobile unit. Among the demonstrations were a dosa making machine, ragi mudde mix, papad press, crunchy egg bites, bio fumigation, bio plate casting, and ozone air disinfection.
