The Department of Social Work, PBMMEC, Mysuru organized a comprehensive Cyber security and Crime Awareness Programme for students on 11.12.2023 in the MCA Seminar Hall, PBMMEC campus, Mysuru as part of Anti-crime Month. The primary objective of the event was to equip students with essential knowledge about cyber security threats, online safety, and the prevention of cybercrime.

Objectives:

Educate on Cyber security: To provide students with a fundamental understanding of cyber security, including common threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices.

Raise Awareness about Cybercrime: To create awareness about the various forms of cybercrime, such as identity theft, phishing, and online fraud, and to educate students on how to protect themselves.

Promote Responsible Online Behavior: To encourage responsible and ethical behavior in the digital space and promote good cyber security hygiene.

Smartphone usage and online money transactions: To make students aware about logging in different apps that are poorly secured and how their data is being misused

Highlights:

The Speaker: PSI Shabareesh, Police Sub-Inspector (Law and order), Department of cyber crime, In charge of Metagalli police station, Mysuru was the speaker. He delivered an engaging lecture on the current landscape of cyber threats and the importance of staying vigilant online. He also covered topics such as password security, social engineering, securing Vpin, international crimes, social media crimes, malware, and the implications of cybercrime on individuals and organizations.

The lecture was followed by a Q&A with the students to actively engage with speakers, addressing specific concerns and queries related to cyber security.

Cyber security and Crime Awareness Programme served as a crucial initiative in preparing our students to navigate the digital world securely. We anticipate that the knowledge gained during this event will empower them to make informed decisions and contribute to the overall cyber security resilience of our college community.
