A Report on Faculty Development Program
“Digital Industry- IT Infrastructure Design, Development and Maintenance”
20th August 2022

The Department of Studies in Computer Science had organized One Day Faculty Development Program on Digital Industry- IT Infrastructure Design, Development and Maintenance for all the teaching faculties of various departments in our PG Campus, Mysuru on 20th August 2022, Saturday.

The session started with a welcome address by Smt. Shruthi Prabhakar, Assistant Professor, DoS in Computer Science. She welcomed the dignitaries, HoD’s, Faculties and gave a brief introduction on the objectives of the Faculty Development Program. She briefed about the need for Digital Industry in the present market, how to develop a Digital Infrastructure for IT, Technology Roles – Software/App development, Networking, Data Security, Cloud, Datacentre, Internet, etc, Future developments in Techno Industry and Next Gen Transformation. Smt. Rachana C R, Associate Professor & Head, DoS in Computer Science introduced the resource person Mr. Naveen Chander C, Founder of Indian IT Company 3Q Sutantra LLP. Our beloved Director Sir Prof. C.K Renukarya spoke a few words regarding the FDP, about the resource person and blessed us with good wishes. Later Smt. Yashaswini J, Assistant Professor, DoS in Computer Science proposed the vote of thanks.

The resource person Mr. Naveen Chander C took over the session and started with a brief introduction on:

  • Internet, Hub, Server, Router, Switches and so on.
  • Topology of Networks – Explained difference between all the types with practical examples and explored more on serial topology of network and also star topology. He explained a real time scenario in which the IT sector incorporates the concept of topology in their infrastructure. Infrastructure is the main investment for any IT sector; it’s a challenge for the engineers to trouble shoot the issues which occur in the network. The role of the engineers in the IT infrastructure, development and maintenance with backup resources. He also briefed the role of switches in a building with 10 levels, interconnected between each level in a building. He explained how to deal with the network issues, if there is any network crash in any level of the building.
  • He explained the software called Cisco Packet Tracer with different configurations included in each component like Hub, Switches, Routers, Connection with all the features of it. He explained about cloud, the purpose of the cloud, necessity of using cloud, cloud providers and so on.
  • He briefed the need of IP address, importance of IP address, how to assign the IP address. He explained the IP address format with 32bit and 128bit i.e IPv4 and IPv6, the difference between the IPv4 & IPv6. The typical representation of IPv4 with decimal digits, formatted as four 8bit field that are separated by periods. Each 8-bit field represents a byte of the IPv4 address with an example he briefed the concept.
  • He explained subnet mask is a 32-bit number created by setting host bits to all 0s and setting network bits to all 1s. The subnet mask separates the IP address into the network and host addresses. The “255” address is always assigned to a broadcast address, and the “0” address is always assigned to a network address. He explained IP address is organized and who will assign those IP address. He also explained the reason for subnet mask with 255.255.255.0 as default design notation for the IP address.
  • Later, a Hands on session for all the faculties using Cisco Packet Tracer software was conducted. Packet tracer is an interactive environment for learning networking concepts and protocols for creating their own virtual network for experimentation, and explanation of networking concepts and technologies. The faculty learned the strength of the software by creating the three PCs and one switch with the connection among them, then assigning IP address for each PC, PINGING each PC in configuration mode to confirm the communication among the PCs.

At the end of the session, Smt. Rachana C R, Associate Professor & Head, DoS in Computer Science thanked the resource person Mr. Naveen Chander C, HoD’s of various departments, Faculties and concluded the session.

Note: 32 no. of faculties from Mahajana PG campus attended the Faculty Development Program.
