Geological Field Visit: Bettadabeedu, Tata Mines at Doddakanya Village
A Geological field visit in and around Mysore City was conducted by the Dept. of Sciences, of Mahajana PG Centre, Mysuru, under the guidance of Dr.C.K.Renukarya Director, PBMMEC, Dr.Satish G Chetty, Chief Coordinator, Dept of Sciences, Mrs.B.S.Gunarekha, Coordinator and Mr.Thanmaya B M, Assistant Professor Geology.
The students of Geology had participated in the field visit held in and around Mysore city on 18/12/2021. The field experts Prof.K N Prakash Narasimha & Prof A V Ganesh guided the students to four different locations at Mysore city to understand the Geological Processes which has happened around 4.0billion years -3.0 billion years ago. The first location visited was Bettadabeedu were students located themselves on a toposheet and saw the metapelitic rocks and they learnt to identify the various rock types present in the field along with the field lens. Also, they measured the dip and strike directions to determine the attitude of the beds.
The second location was the visit to tata mines at Doddakanya village where they saw a magnesite formation in ultramafic bodies. And they were guided to the third location at Gomatagiri where they saw the later event happened around 3.3By i.e the formation of Peninsular Gneissic Complex. At the last location they were guided to chikkahuilalu village near Ilavala where they encountered the Joints, Dolerite dykes and Pegmatitic rocks.
The trip was started at 10:30AM and it was winded up at 6:30PM in the evening.
