One Day Special Lecture in Chem-Forum was conducted by department of chemistry on June 15, 2022, at 11 am in Tourism auditorium of Pooja Bhagavat Memorial Mahajana Education Center.

The function started with Naadageetha sung by second-year M.Sc., students, followed by lighting a lamp by the delegates. Dr. K. R. Prabhu, Professor Department of Organic Chemistry, The Indian Institute of Science was our special guest joined by our beloved director Dr. C.K. Renukarya with them Dr. Ramesh S.R, Dr. Roopa R A, and Dr. Anant N. Nayak were present on the dais, the students and non-teaching staff were assembled of the dais. Dr. Roopa R A, HOD of chemistry department welcomed the gathering and gave a brief introduction about Dr. K. R. Prabhu. Her introduction focused on the main points of his work and his accomplishments in the area of chemistry.

Dr. Renukarya delivered the presidential remarks by recognizing the value of research in a nation’s overall growth. He then discussed about Dr. K. R. Prabhu research contributions to the field of chemistry. Along with this he also emphasized the value of research, and guided students and faculties to engage in more research work.
Dignitaries on the dais felicitated Dr. K. R. Prabhu and Dr. Manasa H. S gave a vote of thanks. At last singing national anthem enhanced patriotism in the gathering.

Dr. K.R. Prabhu, Professor, IISC gave a lecture on organic synthesis and spectroscopic techniques, during the session sir interacted with the students and explained various functional group transformation with examples and narrated the aldol condensation reaction, friedel craft reactions. Also, organic reactions involving C-C bond, C-N bond, C-S bond and C-O bond formation were explained and the synthesis of complex organic molecule by retro synthesis. He explained how to predict the structure of formed products after the completion of the reaction by using various spectroscopic techniques and IR spectroscopy principle and IR spectra of various functional groups along with mass and NMR spectroscopic technique for interpretation of data to the molecule.
In the afternoon session Dr. Santhosh Kumar, Director, Bilva Academy, delivered a talk about the job opportunities, higher studies after M.Sc., like Ph.D and Post-doctoral fellow position. Also, explained the different criteria for higher education, job opportunities in pharmaceutical companies which includes Research and Development Lab, Analytical Research & Development Lab and Quality Control lab.
