Report on ‘Research and Career Opportunities in Cyber Security’.

The Special Lecture was conducted online on 25th November 2021 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm for the students of PG & UG, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College. The Special Lecture was by Smt. Poornima M, Research Scientist at Taylor’s University, Malaysia. The Session began with the inaugural address by Dr. C K Renukarya Director, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, P.G Wing. He stated the importance of Technology and Computers in modern world and how crucial it is to protect the data. Further, Smt. Rachana C R, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Studies in Computer Science, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, PG Wing, introduced the speaker and welcomed all to the special lecture. Later, the session was handed over to the speaker and below is the highlights of the session.

Cyber Attack: A cyber-attack can maliciously disable computers, steal data, or use a breached computer as a launch point for other attacks.
Cyber Security: Cyber security is the practice of defending computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from malicious attacks.
Hacking: Hacking is an attempt to exploit a computer system or a private network inside a computer. Types of Hackers: White Hat Hackers, Black Hat Hackers, Grey Hat Hackers, Script Kiddies, Green Hat Hackers, Blue Hat Hackers…etc.

Many aspects were covered by the speaker with respect to the concept of Hacking by stating a number of illustrations.

The speaker gave a thorough understanding of the research avenues in the field of Cyber Security to the students. The online certification programs available for the benefit of the students were emphasized by the speaker. Mrs. Poornima informed about the scholarship benefits available for research for the girl students at Taylor’s University.

In Q&A session, a couple of questions were raised by the students “How to protect our data from hackers?”, “How India is secured compare to UK or other developed countries?”, “What is cryptocurrency?”, “What is block chain?”, “How to secure self-driving cars” and the speaker solved it through real time examples.

Around 200 members attended the special lecture.
