‘Career Counseling and Skill Enhancement’.

The interactive session was organized on 15th December 2022 at 11:30 am in the auditorium situated in Life Sciences department. The inauguration programme began with a naadageethe by the students of MCA. Smt. Rachana C R, Associate Professor & HoD, DoS in Computer Science welcomed the 2 alumni members heartily. Ms. Saara Kruthibha Raj M B, Student of III sem MCA, & Ms. Shaila Koti V N, III sem MSc CS student introduced the resource persons – Mr. Mohammed Rafiq, Technical Analyst, TCS, Poland and Mr. Nayeem Ulla Khan, Associate Manager, HTC Global Services, Ciber, Bangalore. The programme was presided by Dr. C K Renukarya, Director, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College (A), Post- Graduate Wing. He emphasized the point as to how important it is for every student to develop the Skills necessary to shape into a young entrepreneur. Smt. Yashaswini J, Assistant Professor proposed the vote of thanks. Smt. Shruthi Prabhakar, Assistant Professor compered the programme. The students sang the National Anthem and this marked the end of the inauguration session.

In session II of the Interactive Programme, Mr. Mohammed Rafiq started sharing his life journey from a normal student to how he became the best employee of TCS Company. He shared his education background and the difficulties he faced during the course of study – from PUC to Post-graduation. He explained how important it is to accept ‘what we are’. He spoke about the important interview skills one must possess. Mr. Rafiq recalled how his teachers in MCA department helped him come out successful in his life and career. He thanked all his teachers who were responsible to shape his career. He gave lot of inputs to the final year students about the necessary skills to be successful in their careers. He further quoted that knowledge is never wasted. Mr. Rafiq then gave introduction to objects and class- topics in Object oriented Programming. He made it a point to inform the students not to feel disappointed if one fails. Accepting failure is very important. Accepting that one doesn’t know something is very important.

Next, Mr Nayeem Ulla Khan, Alumni, introduced to the gathering about his study journey till MCA and his career now at Ciber. Mr. Nayeem did his B.Sc Bio- technology and then joined MCA of 3 years.
He was a student from 2006 batch of MCA. He shared with the audience about how he and his classmates used to attend the intercollege fests and other programs and won many Prizes.

He emphasized how important the attribute – ‘discipline’ is, and every student must be disciplined in life to achieve greater heights. He also quoted that “Passion is one thing that pulls us apart from whatever happens”. He spoke about the various aspects of work environments and the types of work pressures that exist in the corporate sector. In the 13 years of corporate experience he has had, he stressed on the point that the students must be mentally prepared to handle projects and submit within the deadlines.

He further explained in detail the topics relating to Computer Science impact in other professionals, Software applications in day-to-day life, Evaluation with popularity of programming languages, Why to learn programming language, Careers in computer Science.
At the end, both Mr. Rafiq and Mr. Nayeem interacted with the students and answered their questions. They also asked specific students about their current interests and future plans.

Smt. Rachana C R, Associate Professor & HoD, DoS in Computer Science profusely thanked and expressed that the session was worthwhile and appreciated the presence and active participation of all the students of the department.

Around 68 final year students of MCA and MSc Computer Science attended the programme.
