Department of Tourism and Hospitality

The department of Tourism and Hospitality offers BBA (3 years Degree programme in Tourism and Hotel mgt.) and MTTM. Tourism course was started in the year 2007 and Hotel mgt. in 2009 to cater to the needs of ever expanding tourism and hospitality industries. The department is committed to the cause of shaping the students to become dynamic tourism and hospitality professionals. The department has state of the art infrastructure to train the students.

The campus is located in a calm and serene atmosphere. This department is attracting many students to pursue quality education in the field of Tourism and Hospitality. The department has highly qualified and experienced multi disciplinary faculty.

Tourism is a major global industry. It is the second largest industry in the world, in terms of creating employment and generating income. It is the fastest growing industry of the world and is the main source of foreign exchange earner in many countries and regions around the globe. It provides employment to 285 million people all over the world and 10 million jobs are added every year. India being a beautiful country, Travel and tourism industry is one of the largest foreign exchange earners in the Indian economy. It provides scores of employment opportunities directly to the people associated with this sector. Being a very wide field, the scope of employment in tourism sector is very bright and the potential is still largely untapped. Unfortunately the industry is devoid of qualified professionals. To address this problem, SBRR Mahajana First grade college PG wing is offering PG course in tourism from the year 2007.

Study Tour

The department regularly conducts study tours to various destinations in India and abroad. Students gain hands on experience in conducting tours. They also study about the conditions in the destination and submit a detailed study tour report.

Workshops

A number of workshops related to the field of tourism and hotel management are conducted every year.

Soft Skill Training

Soft skill training program is conducted every year to the final year students, in order to equip them to face the challenges of the industry.

Guest Lectures

A number of guest lectures are conducted every year on various topics concerning the tourism and hospitality industry.

(A) ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

  1. ATTENDED 4TH NATIONAL HOUSEKEEPERS CONVENTION & ANNIVERSARY OF PHA- 18/5/21019, 8:45 AM to 6 PM, Venue: The Zuri Whitefield, Bengaluru, Theme: Sustainable Housekeeping Operations.

PHA: Given the typical stage of their life, most students constantly want to explore new spaces and seek thrilling experiences. The PHA fraternity very humbly offers a more collaborative engagement for students from various institutions while enriching the hospitality landscape in India. PHA 4th National Convention was inaugurated by Mr. Hariharan. After the Inaugural session they had Panel discussion on need of sustainable practices in hotels – problems and prospects. They also discussed why regulatory factors are important in making people to follow better environmental friendly practices in hotels. It has given the inputs on recent sustainable and eco-friendly practices followed in housekeeping operations across India. All the Panel discussions enlightened us with new innovations. Convention was attended by 4 faculty members of the department Cdr. Satish. H. Mahajana Education Society (MES), Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru & Swagath Gourmet, (SG) New Jersey, U.S.A., signed an agreement on March 1st 2019 to promote International collaboration in Hotel & Hospitality the field of Academic Research, Internship and Training. Prof. H N Satish, Head (Tourism & Hospitality) spoke about the potential collaboration and co-operation for development and promotion opportunities between SG and MES.   1. ORGANIZED TWO DAYS NATIONAL CONFERENCE – 5TH& 6TH OCTOBER 2018

Organized Two Days National Conference on "Tourism and the Digital Transformation" to mark World Tourism Day 2018 was jointly organized by Tourism Department, Government of Karnataka and the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management on 5th& 6th OCTOBER 2018. On 5th October 2018 for inauguration the Guest of honour were Sri G.T.Devagowda, Honourable Higher Education Minister and Sri S.R.Mahesh, Honourable Minister for Tourism & Sericulture, Sri Anilkumar T.K, IAS, Secretary of GoK, Dr.Toney K.Thomas, Deputy dean, Taylor’s University, Malaysia, Mr.Kiran Ranga, Mr.Prashanth, MTAA president, Mr.Shyam Bhat. The occasion was graced by Sri R. Vasudevamurthy, President, Mahajana Education Society (MES), Mysuru, Sri T.Muralidhar Bhagavat, Vice President, MES, Dr.Vijayalakshmi T.Muralidhar, Honourable Secretary, MES, Prof.C.K.Renukarya, Director, Mahajana PG Centre, Cdr Satish H.N ( R ), Head (Tourism &Hospitality) and all faculty members of Department of Tourism & hospitality were present.The two days national conference had six technical sessions, one panel discussion. We organized a one day workshop on “Housekeeping & Zero Waste Management for Hospitality Sector” for BBA students on 8th September 2018. The objective of the programme was to create awareness on cleanliness, hygiene and safety measures related to housekeeping and zero waste management in the hotel sectors, tourism industry and for the community to keep our environment sustainable in a responsible manner. This workshop was an initiative taken by Prof.H.N.Satish, Head (Tourism & Hospitality). He briefed about the objectives of the event. Opening Address about PHA was delivered by the chief guest Mrs.Asha Premkumar, Consultant Housekeeping & Vice President, Professional Housekeeper Association (PHA) followed by “PHA Presentation” by Mrs.Bharti Kalappa, Founder Secretary, PHA. Mr.Thomas Mathew HoD, Army Institute of Hotel Management, Bengaluru spoke about the role of “PHA- Yuva” for the students to bridge the gap between the industry and the institution followed by “PHA Yuva” Jingle by Ms.Indu, Student of AIMS Institute for Higher education. Vice President, PHA Yuva shared her experience and the responsibilities of the PHA Yuva.Smt.Gunarekha B.S, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Tourism & Hospitality Mgmt rendered vote of thanks.

We organized orientation Programme -“Industry Institute Interaction” for freshers, the students of first year BBA (Tourism & Hospitality Mgmt.) on 7th August 2018 between 11.30 a.m and 1.30 p.m at Tourism Auditorium. Infosys Ltd. held a three days’ national level tech conference “INFYTQ SUMMIT 2019” at its Campus, Mysuru and the Hotel Taj,Yashwanthpura, was given the responsibility of ODC from 14/02/2019 to16/02/2019. Our BBA (Tourism & Hotel Mgmt) 39 students and faculty led by Mr. George Jaison and Mr.Roopeshkumar reported on 14/2/2019. Our students carried out their duties allotted to them in their respective shifts and the Taj staff appreciated their performance. Mr.SuhaibTareen showed interest totake all the students from the BBA – Hospitality department as trainees from next year in the various properties of Taj in Bengaluru

Hotel Taj has a requirement of 60 ODC Boys for Food and Beverage department from Herbalife Nutrition companies Spectacular 2019 Event on 10th January 2019.As per their requirement, 60 Boys from BBA (Tourism and Hospitality Management) students and faculty members Mr. George Jaison and Mr.Vinay Kumar K S were assigned ODC responsibilities to complete it. All students and faculty members participated in the World Tourism Day 2018 celebration which was organized in the Mysore Palace by the Mysore Travel Association. Sri G.T.Devagowda higher education minister, Sri Ramdas and Mysore king Sri Yaduveer were the chief guests of the event.  Our students decorated the floor with rangoli and greeted the tourists with roses and distributed sweets.

We are glad to inform that Mr.Suhaib, HR Executive, Taj Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru appreciated our BBA students as the best team and faculty coordinators for their complete dedication and enthusiasm. The International day of yoga was celebrated on 21.06.2018.  Dr.Premnath Raman & Ms.Prathibha of Art of Living Foundation, Mysuru were the Resource persons. Various Aasanas and Meditation were performed by Mahajana PG Centre Staff members and students. The session was followed by Yogic postures demonstration by the volunteers of Vivekananda Yoga Education & Research Institution, Mysuru. The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr.C.K.Renukarya, Director & Professor H.N.Satish, HOD of Tourism Department. The Yoga day was coordinated by Smt.B.S.Gunarekha, Asst.Professor, MTTM.

Tourism is one of the world's fastest growing industries as well as the major source of foreign exchange earnings and employment for many developing countries. It is a labour intensive industry providing plenty of opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. Indian tourism industry is growing rapidly offering excellent job opportunities for professionals.

The department of Tourism is established in the year 2007. This masters degree program in Tourism & Travel Management equips students to learn about the industry and its major components like travel agency, tour operation, Hotels, Aviation, Management, Accounts etc. The course also offers 2 months on the job training in Tourism industry and helps students to build a strong career in the industry.

BBA (Aviation and International Tourism)

The tourism industry is one of the fastest growing industries globally today. The Indian aviation sector is predicted to be the third largest aviation market in the world by 2025. At present, India is the third largest domestic aviation market in the world. The Industry needs highly trained professionals. The three years degree program in B.B.A (Aviation and International Tourism) is designed to varied manpower needs of different segments of Tourism and Aviation Industry. The program will provide an all round training in International Tourism Management and Aviation Management, having practical learning with class room lectures so as to prepare the students to face the challenges of the Industries.

Objective:

The objective of the three years degree program is to provide theoretical knowledge along with practical skills and proper motivation to build a career inProgram BBA (Aviation and International Tourism) of the SBRR Mahajana First Grade College (Autonomous), Mysuru. These Regulations shall come into force from the academic year 2020-2021.

Eligibility for Admission – UG - B.B.A. (Aviation and International Tourism)

a) A candidate who has passed the two year Pre-University examination / 10 + 2 or equivalent examination in any discipline from a recognized Board are eligible for admission to the First semester of the UG program.
b) Students who have done Three years Diploma after X Standard as recognized by Government of Karnataka or any other Government are also eligible.
c) Students who have passed any Job Oriented Course (JOC, 10+2)/ I.T.I. (10+2) /Diploma in Computer Applications for the Visually Impaired (JSS Polytechnic for the Differently Abled Institution) are eligible to join the first Semester B.B.A.

BBA - Hotel & Hospitality

UNDERGRADUATE GRADUATE PROGRAM (UG)

Bachelor of Business Administration (Hotel & Hospitality)

The department offers BBA (3 year degree programme in Hotel & Hospitality) to cater to the needs of ever expanding hospitality industries. This course is approved by University Grants Commission and affiliated to the University of Mysore. It is a six semester full time programme. This program helps students to learn about the industry and its major components like Production, F & B Service, Front Office, Accommodation Operations, HR, Computer applications, Management, Accounts etc. The course also offers three months on the job training in Tourism & Hospitality and helps students to build a strong career in the industry.

Eligibility for Admission – UG - B.B.A. (Hotel & Hospitality)

  1. A candidate who has passed the two year Pre-University examination conducted by the Pre-university Board of Education, Government of Karnataka or any other examination considered equivalent by the University is eligible for admission to the First semester of the UG program.
  2. Students who have done Three years Diploma after X Standard are also eligible.
  3. A Candidate who has passed 3 years Diploma in commercial or Secretarial Practice conducted by Department of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka is eligible for admission to 3rd Semester B.B.A. directly. However, such a candidate has to pass the languages and other compulsory Papers viz., Constitution of India and Environment Studies of first two semesters.
  4. A Candidate who has passed 2 years Diploma in Business Administration conducted by Department of Technical Education. Government of Karnataka is eligible for admission to 5th Semester B.B.A degree course subject to the condition that the candidate has to pass papers in languages and all compulsory papers of first Four Semesters B.B.A.
  5. Students who have passed any Job Oriented Course (JOC, 10+2)/ T.I.(10+2) /Diploma in Computer Applications for the Visually Impaired (JSS Polytechnic for the Differently Abled Institution) are eligible to join the first Semester B.B.A.
