A District disability Rehabilitation centre is a specialized facility that provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities at the district level .These centers are typically established by the government and non-governmental organization to ensure that people with disabilities have access to essential rehabilitation services in their local communities.From the department of social work on 1/12/2023 around 11:00 pm we all had visited to know the centre aims to address the physical, Psychological, social and vocational needs of people with disabilities and also to understand DDRC’s offer range of services to cater to the diverse needs of individuals with disabilities. Speaking at the program, Nodal officer Arjun explained.About the government scheme in 2012 . There are 4 types of rehabilitation:-Education, Health sector,economical sector and social sector.In 1995 act,government granted provision only for 7 types of disability:-Blindness,low vision, Leprosy, hearing impairment, locomotor disability, Mental Retardation and mental illness.Later in 2016,government declared provisions for 21 types of disability:-Blindness, low vision, Leprosy, hearing impairment, Locomotor disability, Dwarfism, Intellectual Disability ,Mental illness, Autism spectrum disorder,Cerebral play,Muscular dystrophy, Chronic neurological conditions, Specific learning disabilities, Multiple sclerosis, Speech and language disability, Thalassemia, Hemophilia, Sickle cell disease, Multiple Disabilities including deaf-blindness,Acid attack victims, Parkinson Diseases.In this District Disability Rehabilitation centre which is located in Tilak Nagar, Mysuru. There are 25 staffs and 9 technical staffs. Comprehensive assessments are conducted to determine the specific needs, abilities and limitations of individuals with disabilities. DDRC’s typically provide various types of therapies:-physiotherapy, occupational therapy, Speech and language therapy and Psychological therapy. These therapies Aim to improve physical,cognitive,communication and physiological functioning. They also provide assisting devices,such as wheel chairs,crutches,hearing aids,communication aids and other assistive technologies.These devices help individuals with disabilities to overcome barriers and improve their independence. DDRC’s provide training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of individuals with disabilities.He also continued saying,’Emotional and Psychological support is provided to individuals with disabilities and their families through counseling services.This may include doctor, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, Speech and language therapists, occupational therapist, psychologist, social worker,vocational trainers and support staff. DDRC’s typically collaborate with various stakeholders,including government agencies, non-governmental organizations,local communities and other service providers.

The funding for DDRC’s may come from government source and non-governmental organization,charitable donations. Some services provided at DDRC’s may be subsidized or offered free of charge to ensure affordability for individuals with disabilities particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The visit to DDRC’s was very helpful, where we all got to know that DDRC play a crucial role in providing essential rehabilitation services to individual with disabilities at the district level.They serve as a local Resource for comprehensive support,helping,individual with disabilities to overcome challenges improve their functional abilities and lead more fulfilling lives.
