Ms. RAYANA LAVITHA D SILVA
Current Position: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
Qualification: M.Sc., K-SET
Teaching Experience: 2 years
Courses offered: Genetics, Bioorganic and Bioinorganic, Metabolism of Nucleic acids, Metabolism of Lipids.
Current research interests: Utilizing the drosophila system to study the mechanisms involved in pain, Alzheimer’s and depression pathophysiology separately and scope for therapeutic strategies. The study focuses on understanding behavioural and biochemical evidences of neurodegeneration and
neurotherapy.
Doctoral Research: Doctoral work is aimed at the assessment of neuromodulatory properties anthocyanins and natural pigments per se and against experimentally induced neurodegenerative diseases employing rodent and Drosophila systems. The work includes studying the possible modulatory efficacy on motor and cognition behaviour in experimentally induced neurotoxicity models. Studies also included analysing cellular targets of depression.
